Returns are the part of shipping that most often ends in chaos: parcels pile up, nobody knows what's inside, and the customer is waiting for their refund. ShipHugo treats every return like a goods-in with its own inspection step. For each parcel you see what arrived, what condition it's in, and whether the item is resalable again. Our return rate across all customers sits at 1.9 percent, and every single one runs through the same controlled process.

What returns management covers

On arrival, every return is matched to the right order, unpacked, and inspected item by item. We check completeness, condition, and original packaging, and record the result with photos and in the system. Resalable goods go straight back into inventory, so they're immediately orderable again.

Whatever is no longer A-grade, we handle by your rules: refurbish it, store it separately as B-grade, send it back to you, or dispose of it properly. You define the logic once, and we apply it the same way to every return. Each return incurs a returns handling at a fixed rate, with the goods-in itself included.

How a return works

  1. Intake and matching

The parcel arrives at our fulfillment locations and is assigned to the original order via return slip or order number.

  2. Inspection and documentation

We open the shipment, check every item for condition and completeness, and document any issues with a photo in the system.

  3. Decision by your rules

Resalable items go back into available inventory; damaged or opened goods follow the logic you've defined.

  4. Feedback and inventory

You get the status per parcel live and can trigger the refund in your own shop as soon as the inspection is complete.

Cross-Border returns, CH and EU

If you sell into both markets, returns come back from Switzerland and from the EU. We take them in at whichever location fits: Swiss returns in Switzerland, EU returns in the EU. That way you avoid unnecessary border crossings and the customs and VAT hassle tied to every single return.

Inspected goods are available again right where they're needed for the next sale, without first being hauled back across Europe. When needed, we consolidate B-grade goods or forward them to you in one batch, instead of shipping every consignment individually.

Transparency, not a black box

In the control center you see every open and completed return in real time: which parcel arrived, what condition the contents were in, and whether the item is back in inventory. The inventory accuracy of 99.7 percent holds after a return too, because every returned unit runs through the same capture step as a normal goods-in.

You're only billed for what actually applies: the returns handling per shipment, with no flat fees for return rates you don't have, and no hidden surcharges.

FAQCommon questions

Questions about returns management

How quickly is returned merchandise orderable again?

After inspection, resalable items usually go back into available inventory the same business day and are then immediately orderable again in the shop.

Who decides what happens to damaged goods?

You set the rules once: refurbish, store separately as B-grade, send back to you, or dispose. We document the condition with a photo and apply your instructions consistently.

What does returns management cost?

For each return we charge the handling at a fixed rate, including inspection and restocking. There's no flat fee on your return rate and no hidden surcharges.

Can EU returns be handled separately from Swiss returns?

Yes. We take in EU returns in the EU, and Swiss returns in Switzerland. That keeps the goods in the right market and does away with unnecessary border crossings and the customs and VAT effort.
